How Much Did Your Church Receive in Grants or Donations From the
Nearly
$250 Billion Given to Non-profits?
How to Get Funding From Grants &
Donations
How is your church or ministry doing in the grants and
donations department? It seems there
is some money out there - in
2005, the most recent year for which we have full reporting,
there was almost $250 billion donated to non-profits. Sadly,
only about $1 out of 3 of these contributions went to religious
programs; about $98 billion. For those churches and ministries
looking to government programs for funding, we see in this
article on the faith-based funding
initiative, that the faith-based funding initiative
only provided a little over 2% of the $98 billion in funding to
religious programs.
So... If there was all this money being donated, and if
religious givers, particularly Evangelical Christians out gave
the other donors 2:1, how come so many churches have such
a difficult time getting funding for their ministry, church
program or social service?
There is no one simple answer to this question, but here are
some ways that many churches or ministries miss the
(money) boat when seeking grants or donations.
-
Make sure you have something to write
about. Before you or someone you hire writes a
grant proposal, you need to be able to demonstrate results -
not how many people went through your program, but how many
succeeded in a life change, becoming contributors instead of
recipients.
-
Make sure you stand out in the crowd.
Your ministry is competing against hundreds of
thousands of other applications, and not just from religious
organizations. Learn how to communicate what makes
your ministry worth a 2nd look, little alone funding?
-
Understand what donors are looking for.
If you are more interested in telling them what you want
instead of what they want, you will never connect to the
funding. Learn how to reach and connect with faith friendly
donors.
-
Look where the money is.
Individual
donors gave nearly five times
more than foundations, governments and corporations
contributed. Learn how to find and attract the support
of individual donors.

find these givers and how to attract their support using the
Bible-based best practices of the apostle Peter, whose ministry
is historically the best funded of any ever led by man.
